MOTD Edit is a Win95 GUI for making Message of the day files for Quake2 mods that use the high ascii ("fun chars"). 22 of the most common characters are displayed on the top toolbar, and can be inserted by clicking on them.
WYSIWYG
MOTD Edit's GUI displays the characters exactly as they appear in Quake2.
Easy To Use And Customize
MOTD Edit provides mouse and keyboard support. And also allows mod authors to customize MOTD Edit to take advantage of Format Specifiers. Format Specifiers are characters that are embedded in the MOTD file and converted to the users name, level, server name, or whatever else the mod author decides to do. They are displayed in MOTD Edit as White or Green numbers on a blue background. Here's an example of how the format specifiers would work.
I.E.
%n has joined to play on %s's Server
%n would be translated as the players name who is connecting to the server, and the %s would be the servers name.
I made the Graphics for these specifiers alternating colors so MOD authors could display White letters if the char in the specifiers is lower case, and Green if the char is upper case. If you are a mod author, and need assistance on customizing MOTD Edit to use these, please email me.
Unique Export Bitmap
The Export Bitmap Wizards allow you to make bitmaps of the MOTD file. Convert them to gif or some other html supported graphic and you get web art.
Operating System
Win95/WinNT
Video
At least 16bit color. MOTD Edit still works with less, but MOTD Edit's graphics are 256 colors, and not the windows 256 color palette.
Run Time Files
MOTD Edit uses Visual Basic 5.0 Run Time Files.
